Well, it’s that time of year where an ounce of home-maintenance prevention can save you a ton of money and headaches.

Yup, it’s the time of year to shut off the garden hose valves from inside the house.

Finding them should be easy — they should be just through the wall from the location of the garden hose valve. Also, this is the ideal time of year to inspect them — in fact, it’ll be just about impossible not to. Look for mineral build-up, water drips (you might have to look for spots on the floor if there is no water present) and double check that valve operates properly.

Also, remember to open the outside valve and unscrew the hose so any water left inside the system can escape, or expand if it freezes.
